Is it possible to reduce the zero order in a CGH using an SLM (limited phase depth) by implementing some kind of optimization in the SLM response?

In general the supplied gamma curve for an SLM is linear which may not result in best performance for a given device. How one can optimise SLMs having limited phase depths and also reduce the dc term?
