Is using FMO controls better than using isotype controls for flow cytometric cytoplasmic staining?

I would like to know if using FMO controls is better than using isotype controls for flow cytometric cytoplasmic staining eg. MPO-PE with TdT-FITC. What is the best protocol for using FMO controls?
