Why high amplitude first tangential mode (1T) is catastrophic for rocket engine operation?

Wherher 1T mode is only responsible for catastrophe in rocket engines. Whether equal 1L mode will not be similarly dangerous as 1T mode. Is it the case that 1L mode will damp, but 1T doesn't....
