Below is example XOJO code for writing a text file.  Reading the file in is similar, however you will define the stream as TextInputStream and use stream.readline.  The lines that begin with "//" are comments.

//You can write text files or binary files

//Text files are useful because they can be openned by text editors for inspection

// tab deliminated or designate any delimination you want "," or ":" or ";" or "*" etc.

Outputfile=GetSaveFolderItem("txt","Default File Name.txt")

//Check to make certain you didn't hit cancel and no file was selected

//Write data as string with delimination. For example:

//data1, data2, data3 are your variables

s=str(data1)+t+str(data2)+t+str(data3)+....

Thanks for your example 'write'.  It looks a good and I will try it out nest time I do some programming.

The input is what gave me fits!  Until I discovered the "split" command.

I have been writing lots of XOJO code now that I got the I/O problem figured out.

There is one other thing that I appreciate your help with.  I can use the dialog method to open and save files interactively.  But I'd also like to open and save files directly to a folder without going through the dialogue box.  How do I tell my program (in code) to go to a specific folder and open or save a file there?  In old VB,  I simply entered all the directory routing info, but am not sure what that would look like in XOJO (for a Mac running OSX).
