Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a broad term used to describe a company's efforts to improve society in some way. These efforts can range from donating money to nonprofits to implementing environmentally-friendly policies in the workplace.

The profit seeking business`s primary responsibility is its shareholders. But it dies not mean that they should ignore their CSR policies. In fact the more the company is CSR oriented the more its share value increases. Assuming we are talking about a private sector organisation all three are included in the Triple Bottom Line approach. Even government and Not for Profit organisations have to take responsibility for their financial doners or providers so they also need to mange these interests. In all, some sort of evaluation of the risk faced by the organisation and how to reduce this risk must be evidence of an organisation seeking to learn and be generally responsible. Donations, grand statements or headline seeking activities, may try to hide unethical behaviours so by themselves may not be proof of good CSR.

Corporate Social responsibility may be perceived as a holistic approach towards growth and development of company's profits by creating positive impact on the society.Society however comprises,its shareholders,its empowered employees and of course all those customers who are enticed by the company's efforts to bring good quality life to them.All this encourage the companies to instill more efficiency into their operations thus creating a bottom line for the company in terms of increased reputation and brand loyalty

Integration of social and business goals is the need of the hour, which can be done through CSR. Companies can support the social enterprises through their CSR projects. In the process the companies can enhance their reputation and at the same time help the society to meet the requirements. Companies should aim at "Fortune at the bottom of the Pyramid".

The CSR is provided for the parties that doesn't have control management policies in doing bussiness. However these parties will get direct effect from management policies. At current, most CSR practices are separated from business operations and often stand merely as a response to stakeholder pressures (Porter & Kramer, 2006). The activities are generally inadequate and fail to identify, prioritize and address key social issues or those, which businesses can impact most significantly. Instead, there is a haphazard effort of CSR practices that are disconnected from the company’s strategies, which not only fail to make any meaningful societal impact, but also don’t strengthen the company’s long-term competitiveness.

A solution to this problem can be the adoption of Creating Shared Value (CSV), a concept founded by Porter and Kramer (2011). CSV can be outlined as policies and operating practices strengthening the competitive position of a company and increasing the economic and social conditions in the company’s local community at the same time (Porter & Kramer, 2011).
