Hi,

During heat treatment, irreversible thickening of metal oxide (MO) takes place. The defects in the MO can be improved upon calcination. Also, grain sizes increased. Moreover, the metal oxide before calcination has some amount of water and/or moisture so this water content gets reduced upon calcination, which results in higher crystallinity.
