for the methylene blue degradation , when i introduce Bi2S3 in my parent material, i see nothing, the absorbance wavelength maxima remains constant ( absorbance ) during and after irradiation but in case of parent material it reduces gradually with irradiation,
the adsorption of MB on surface of Bi2S3 is first step to start degradation, at same time for your case may be no more MB on surface of Bi2S3 which you can check the pH of solution as one effect parameter on the removal process. on the other hand, you can start with low concentration of MB to investigate the affect of all parameters.
I think if your parent material is porous,it is possible that addition of Bi2S3 change your parent material morphology or own Bi2S3 is placed inside the cavity. Consequently, the matter can not adsorb methylene blue.
actually my parent material is hierarchical but the in case of heterostructure i see spikes over my structure which is Bi2S3, even if it is not allowing methylene blue to adsorb onto inner structure Bi2S3 has also its own intrinsic activity as catalyst for methylene blue degradation, i am not observing that. i tried with Rh B ( dye ) but same thing, in case of parent structure, dye degrades but in case of heterostructure absorbance peak remains before and after irradiation showing no degradation
Bi2S3 particles may not provide sufficient adsorption reaction with the MB or the number of election-hole pairs generated by the host material are not improved.
