With relevance to management education, what we learned 20 years ago has seen a wider change over perspective through changes in Technology, People aspirations, economic turnarounds, Developments, gadgetry, information, Global benchmarks, greater mobility and coverage....

Now a days, students appreciate 'Practice and application orientation' while learning.

The Gap is simple: teacher are  one, or two or three generations older than students. We teach the past, to students that use all that knowledge in the future.

In my opinion a huge part of the problem are beliefs about how learning and teaching works. Beliefs change very slowly, so common traditions are surving in teachers' classroom behaviour.

There are several gaps: 1) the gap between student expectation and student experience; 2) the gap between academics and practical application; 3) the gap between institutional expectations and student preparation; 4) the gap between institutional goals and institutional support (ties directly back to #1); 5) and the gap between student goals and student prioritization of educational efforts.  These are just a few of the challenges faced by educators in the classroom and student development staff throughout an institution.

There is also a gap between goals of teachers and students in classrooms. Most students don't want to build knowledge. They just manage information to pass the test. For more information: Patricia Alexander did very interesting research in this field.

I'll look for Patricia Alexander's work.  the question I would like to address is the "why" behind that gap, too.

Students just want to pass out by hook or crook

i am not sure that the is the desire so much as the imposed situation.  i agree, that there are those who are just trying to get it done.  Interestingly, I have found that those students are not necessarily at risk; they are actually quite bright and are frustrated by what they perceive as extraneous or unnecessary.  As educators, we need to be careful that what we provide is relevant, challenging, and something that can be operationalized quickly as  much as possible.  I think this is one way for students to recognize value for effort.
