I'm not clear whether this is actually a problem or not, but I recommend you open Task Manager and see what resources are being used.

If you're running a large CASTEP calculation on your laptop, it may be using so much RAM that it is swapping data to disk ("virtual memory"); if the RAM usage is not too high, you could probably speed everything up by quitting all the other programs (e.g. Materials Studio).
