I am doing a reserch on infrared thermography inside industrial furnaces, and I am not sure about why a camera sensitive to 3.9μm wavelength radiation cannot see flames due to natural gas combustion.
Does it have something to do with the emission spectrum of the flue gas?

Flames emit much more thermal radiation at certain wavelengths than at other objects and at certain points in the spectrum a flame emits hardly any thermal radiation at all. Some thermal camera make use of this fact to filter out the flame to allow through flame measurements. Flame filter typically restricts the spectral sensitivity in the range of 3.8μm - 4.05μm.

Do you know if it is the same for 1.0µm cameras?
As far as I know a flame doesn´t emit any radiation in the range near 1.0µm neither. Are 1.0µm cameras also used as flame filters due to this fact.
