In thinking about the forthcoming research assessment exercise in the UK (https://www.ref.ac.uk/) I find myself pondering both the usefulness and value of the metrics that one can draw upon to illustrate research value, particularly as the volume of different measures grow. (citations, scopus scores, altmetric scores, research gate score, institutional scores etc.. etc..)
So my question: Which do you feel are the most important, and why?
Hirsch index or H-index. It is universal – for an individual researchers, research group, university, for a country, for a geographic region, for scholar journals as well. This index is integral. It accounts the quantity of research papers and their impact in scientific society. The value of this index is available in Scopus, Web-of-Science, Google Scholar so on. Recently, this index is well recognized and applied for scientometric assessments in academic community and institutions.
