There are many International Standards available , like ASTM, ISO, JIS, EN, etc. Which one is the most commonly used standard in Indian Laboratories, and what is the advantage of that specific standard which makes it most preferred one ?
I would like to get the answer in the context of Fiber and Composite Tensile tests, In-plane and Inter-laminar Shear Tests and Density test for a Carbon-Epoxy composite.

As you told, ASTM seems to be the most widely used standard. I have found some more reasons for its wide approval.
ASTM standards are comprehensive. They cover almost all tests, experiments involved in the life cycle of a component. Other standards like ISO, JIS, EN does not cover many tests so extensively as ASTM does.
Another reason is that ASTM published their standards only after conducting infinite number of experiments over a wide range. So, their standards are optimized to be the best.
One more thing is that in developing an ASTM standard, contrasting product viewpoints are represented. in fact, in all ASTM product committees, diversity in representation is mandatory. The frequently opposing viewpoints on ASTM product committees are the necessary ingredient for creating a consensus standard that will be found reliable and balanced in a given industry.
For example, the ASTM producer member comes to the table knowing that the standard needs to allow room for a profit in manufacturing. The ASTM scientist or designer fields the arguments for product strength and performance. The contractor or consumer insists on a product that is both economical and provides good service for the money spent. Every ASTM standard, from steel and concrete to plastic and glass, represents a balance of diverse ideas in a credible and internationally respected approach.
ASTM is founded on the idea of developing material standards by a consensus of all parties involved.
Whenever there is a disagreement about a product or material, whenever engineers analyze structural failure, whenever there is a problem with product performance, whenever a judge wants to determine who stands with established precedent, ASTM is the standard bearer, the specification that resolves conflicts.

ASTM seems to be the most widely used, personally I have used them for 30+ years. The working group committees are suported by European engineers as well as engineers from the USA. The FAA recognizes them as good test methods to support composites design. Many of the ISO standards are very similar.
