Nowadays, we live in an urban era. Urban dwellers occupy more than half of the world's human population, and the fraction is projected to 60-70% by 2050. The Urban Island (UHI) is a phenomenon with higher surface air/skin temperature in urban areas than in surrounding rural areas.

In big cities, the UHIs are often comparable with or larger than projected global mean temperature rise for next several decades. When one guy moves from countryside to urban centers, he needs to adapt to temperature rise which may be larger than that he will experience in rural areas in the next several decades. So, which one have larger effects on the human society, the UHI or Global warming in the present and near future?
