I'm interested in purchasing S-adenosyl-methionine (SAMe) for research purposes. I have several options to choose from, including 1. S-(5'Adenosyl)-L-methionine iodide, 2. S-(5'Adenosyl)-L-methionine chloride dichloride (5mg), and 3. S-(5'Adenosyl)-L-methionine p-toluenesulfonate salt. I plan to reproduce the crystal structure of SAMe. Which of these three options would be most suitable for my research, and will the choice of salt affect the drug's function?
The salt form of drug compounds is to improve drug's function by improving their aqueous solubility, stability @ a range of temperature/RH, manufacturability-better flowability and easy to handle, etc..
The most important is to make a crystalline salt of a drug substance and understand how easy/or difficult to make one, if applicable. If three salt forms are not known, you should first prepare a small amount of each followed by characterizations for initial studies, i.e. so called primary salt screen. Then you would know which is the one you should choose to scale-up for your research. Good luck.
