Many countries (Canada and the US included) conduct some very good surveys to monitor catch, which may be sufficient (I have to look into some of the programs more carefully), but I'm looking for programs where recreational anglers are expected to keep a diary of their own catch and report it at the end of the year, so your data are not so much a survey of catch and effort where you use these to calculate global estimates, but a census of the actual catch and effort by all anglers (with some non reporting bias).

In Germany, most angling clubs and associations have mandatory catch reporting, often without corresponding effort data. There is, however, no harmonization of data across 10.000 angling clubs.

In Malta shore anglers are not required to keep a log and neither the sport fishing clubs.

In Greece, until now it is not mandatory to report the fish catch by recreational (shore and lakes) fishery. We hope in the near future to have mandatory catch reporting.

Hi Kosmas. Has Greece started developing the methods for reporting catch and effort, or are they still considering it? If they've already started development, I'd love to hear more.

The Czech Republic has mandatory catch reports for harvested fish and fishing visits. The whole country uses the same system.
