Perceived adequacy of partner support will be measured using the Support in Intimate Relationships Rating Scale Revised – SIRRS-R (Barry et al., 2009). The 48 items represent supportive behaviours including emotional support (e.g. love, affection), instrumental support (providing assistance to solve a problem), esteem support (showing confidence in one’s partners abilities), informational support (providing advice), and network support (encouraging one’s partner to make use of social resources such as family and friends). Respondents report how many times their partner engaged in each behaviour, and how many times they would have liked their partner to engage in that behaviour over the prior month.
