Where to find guides for linking Simulink and Java through UDP?

I'm trying to establish bidirectional communication between Simulink and Java (ultimately, a JAVE-based multi-agent system) using UDP. However, I keep getting Java timeout exceptions and can't pin down the cause. Does anyone know of any good guides or tutorials for this subject?
