Dear Researchers, can you share what strategies you adopt while communicating with editors and reviewers when you feel reply to your revised manuscript is taking much more than usual time? Is there any reliable book or reference guiding on same?
Is sending reminder in a week or fortnight is okay? Will it not annoy Editor/reviewer? What is best and safest way to get the decision process speeded up and sensitive to author's requirement?

You can't speed it up. Just trust the process and check for updates online.
Difficult to speed it up. Is not you who gives the rhythm. What you need is patience. You have to accept that you are in the lower position.
It is difficult to be speeded up or steamrolled. But reminding in a week or fortnight is not desirable as the process takes its own time. As EIC for a journal I can say that the chain is long and at times reviewers take time to respond. But a polite reminder after a period of nearly two months would be taken up by the concerned editor to look into the matter and remind the reviewers to send their observations as fast as possible.
It varies from journal to journal, but if you have revised with edits and submitted for 2nd reviewing, it would not be unreasonable to ask the Editor/Editorial Team/Editorial Assistant after a month to 6 weeks on where your manuscript stands if the status has not changed on the website. It is always best to stay on Journals' good sides so try to develop a good working relationship with them rather than one which is based on backwards-forwards e-mail chasing. Difficult to do, but be polite and if they happen to mention things such as "we are short of reviewers, so it will take time" potentially offer your reviewing services to the journal for the future. It is a bit of a trade off, but helps everyone in the end. It is really frustrating, but stick with it - good luck!
