Because we need efficient compression techniques to deal with large data.

Adding to the above topics, i think one of the important signal processing tasks is the signal detection in MIMO and massive MIMO systems. Also precoding of the transmit signals for spatial MIMO systems to enhance the signal detection in the receiver.
