To begin teaching undergraduate students on the protected cultivation of fruits, vegetables, and flowers, what teaching material do friends recommend?
I saw plenty of books, but most of them are bulky and contain repeated materials in other subject materials.
So I need a complete, precise teaching material for the same.
I don't know about books but I would recommend to do a demonstration by using a cheap hydrophonic system, maybe collect rainwater from the school roof and run it through a simple filtration sytem like a sand filter to remove organic matter. Then measure the conductivity, and prepare a multi nutrient solution. Use this to adjust the rainwater to an EC of 2.7 mS, adjust the pH to 6.5 with phosphoric acid, and with a water pump run the solution through pots filled with coconut fibre and the plants, for example tomatoes. You can collect the water again after it has run through and add more nutrient solution to bring it up to 2.7 mS again. This way you can recycle the solution many times until nutrient imbalances become too large.
As far as Indian Agri. Uni. concern we have to follow syllabus and patterns recomanded by ICAR. You can find that guidelineit on ICAR website also.
As we have completed our B.Sc. , M.Sc. and Ph.D. with lots of exam experience in the same field we came to know that the same subject of B.Sc. comes with advanced subject and the same with Ph.D. So we need to follow the guideline of ICAR and have to teach that all but concentrate on basic part only because advance in that will be further. If we go in deep we can't complete our syllabus and depth of all topic will increase the burden of students also as they have to focus same on all disciplines subjects during B.Sc.
