I would like to study the flock sizes, home range and territory of these species. What are the factors I should take care of while conducting the study? Kindly help.
The recommended size for Greater Necklaced Laughingthrushes is a 2. You can see it here: https://nationalband.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/USGS-Bird-Band-List1.pdf
But a much better resource for you is here: http://www.avianrearingresource.co.uk/species/documents/179.pdf
If you still need advice on this, I can put you in touch with a colleague who has a great deal of experience ringing laughing thrushes in Southeast Asia. Just drop me an email message at mgilbertATwcs.org and I'll introduce you (replace AT with @!).
There are many species of laughing thrush and they are unlikely to all need the same ring size. Many of the species occurring in Assam do not occur in South east Asia. Questions: who is supplying your rings? Who has trained you to catch and ring wild birds? Without training you are likely to kill quite a few. So a significant factor in your research should be the well-being of your study birds. Is there a ringing program in Assam? In principle you will need a ring size that gives a certain minimum clearance around the tarsus when the ring is closed. So you will probably need to measure the width of the tarsus.
