I am interested in NB LDPC high efficiency decoder . I want to know about the " how it can be made more hardware friendly ? Which existing method can be improved further to achieve this goal ?
is trellised based Min-Sum NB-LDPC has some capacity for further research ? what is the good to way fo NB-Decoding ? pass all information as symbol (nonbinary) or a binay word(bit by bit) ??
On the other hand, there is a paper on coded modulation from where you can find a comparison of different coding for multilevel modulation schemes, where non binary, polar and others are considered.

Also from Ivan B Djordjevic you can see that LDPC continues offering a good performance against NL effects in optical communications, and https://scholar.google.com/citations?view_op=view_citation&hl=es&user=dPfqhb0AAAAJ&sortby=pubdate&citation_for_view=dPfqhb0AAAAJ:IyMil-iDmu0C
