The selectivity index is a measure of the safety of an extract or compound.  It is calculated by dividing the concentration that will harm animal cells by the concentration that would  kill a microorganism.  Most people consider that a minimum inhibitory activity of less than 0.1 mg/ml represents good activity.

Does anybody know what LD50 (concentration that kills 50% of cells) of an extract or compound would be considered as safe.  Any reference would be welcomed.
