Dear Ahmed,

Building with clay (earth mixed with cut straw) and clay (earthen) bricks is a traditional (about 1000 years of experience or more) Hungarian house building technology. Even these days many use it. It is officially estimated and there are official standards about it. I have attached a brief description in Hungarian with many good photos thus each of us can imagine it.

Are you looking for a specific type of architecture or generally whatever has been built with 'mud' as you say. because in Google Image you can find plenty of pictures in different countries, unless it is in a specific country or era that you are looking for. Have a look at some photos at the link below. also you can find the 10 Incredible Mud Structures and Citadels from which two are in Iran, it was common to use  mud in desert areas(hot and dry climate) in old times.hope that helps

By "mud" buildings you probably mean clay-based construction, or really clay-based concrete (vs. portland cement concrete).  Practically every country in the world has one or several vernacular clay building traditions, typically some version of adobe bricks, rammed earth, or cob.  Many are unremarkable, but some are spectacular, like the 900 year old city Shibam in Yemen (cob), the great wall of China (rammed earth), and Taos Pueblo in the USA (adobe).  Clay is a fantastic building material that has its strengths and limits, just like every other building material.  I authored an international standard that incorporates recent developments in seismic and thermal design,  ASTM E2392.  For more information and technical papers see the BuildWell Library http://www.buildwelllibrary.org.

This book is an intelligent approach to "Traditional Knowledge"(TK) through a scientific approach. In it you can understand the basic concepts and check real-life comparisons (a small traditional building monitored and compared to its equivalent in concrete blocks). Very simple, yet visionary.

In my opinion, today´s issue is not to prove that it works.

The challenge is to make it appealing (again) to the general population, for it to be seen as new "sign" of contemporaneity. Until then concrete blocks, metal sheets and air conditioned will prosper, and relevant TK will be lost.

In Sardinia, expecially in lowland areas  and hilly, there are a lot of houses made in "ladiri", a mud brick.

The brick was used in construction until 1940-1955. It was manufactured on site, near the works.

The brick was reinforced with natural fibers, normally hay. The Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon) was used by poor people.

Normally "ladiri" was protected with lime plaster.

Recently, the material has been studied, re-evaluated and put into production for green buildings.

Thank you and if some of the areas a strong economy does not use clay in buildings is used in poor areas, the environment it is possible that the material clay imposed for fits in with the prevailing climate in that region, but for the durability has castles warships and forts were built of clay or brick remains of thousands of milk years.

Mud brik is very good as isolated materials esppecially in hot dry regions , in addition that type of materials can be clasified as very cheap and very commen used production ,accodring to the local climate there such as on Middle East and nothern of Africa.

mud brik used as an important material in hot dry regions like north africa as you said and there is an important place it is USA ( Saudi Arabia) there are many old buildings houses, citadels and mosques 

Earthen materials have been used as building materials for many thousands of years - in the mid -late 20th century it was widely estimated that around one third of the worlds population lived in earth walled houses. Now it is seen that the use of natural materials such as earth has a huge role to play in the building of modern ecologically responsible buildings, and a lot of work has been done at various Universities around the world  - in France, UK, Germany, USA, Australia, Peru, New Zealand, India and others to ensure that earth buildings are safe and sanitary. Some countries have modern standards for earth walled buildings - one of the most comprehensive is the suite of 3 earth building standards published by Standards New Zealand in 1998, (NZS 434297, 4298 and 4929) and current under revision.  There has been no recorded failure of any earth walled building built in accordance with these despite exposure to earthquakes and severe wind driven rain. There is a also a recent ASTM E2392  from the USA.   The wealth of material available on modern earth buildings is too vast to mention.
