Read the writings of the Bauhaus who argued that design is not a matter of philosOphelia but of everyday making. Then try to counter this argument if you can
Teaching Philosophy is often taken along with teaching theory of Architecture. how ever the boundaries are also quite close. I have taught there of Architecture but I felt I am touching upon Philosophy as well. I believe if it is philosophy one should be able to answer the fundamental questions. borsch questions are outlined below
what is architecture ? this is the purpose of architecture
how architecture is made ? design methodology
what constituent architecture? the composition, elegance and spatial professions and its components
what generates architecture? social. contextual, corporate, user, functional forces that generates architecture
If you outline in answering these questions you will be able to work out a syllabus. You may want to take examples from different theorists and how they responded to these questions. that actually make one persons architectural philosophy.
I think this book is still a good starting point for a syllabus: ’Rethinking Architecture: A Reader in Cultural Theory’ by Neil Leach. It is a collection of text extracts from significant philosophers and critics of the 20th century.
There has been much text available on the Philosophy of Architecture for the undergraduate students. However, the critical question remains its digestion and further application. Perhaps, a progressive method can be adopted employing the 'fundamental' questions suggested by Niranjika Wijesooriya .
Also, with so much of reference available, as David Kroll 's suggestion Neal Leach and its counter of 'practice' as Bauhaus ( Bryan R Lawson ) it will be interesting to explore decolonisation of Philosophy of Architecture from its own conditions. My experience from India, as a student and as a faculty of architecture, guides me to explore the situated-ness of the philosophical premise.
