Is it just in order to eliminate the circulating currents among DGs by maintaining same voltage and angle ? Also how does it improve the stability of the system?

A virtual impedances plays a vital role in power injection in to the grid. Which in turns improves the stability of the system if the RES generation connected to a weak grid as all ready answered by Zeashan Khan above.
