Very interesting but.... what are theese "fundamental British values" presuming that, following the SES of the neighbourhood and their sociocultural composition, they might differ profoundly. It does underscore the "school-community relationship", including the link between NGO's and the various schools or (equivalent schooboards) in a specific area).

The government has defined 'fundamental British values' (as: democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths). An older policy initiative whereby schools were required to (and inspected on) the promotion of 'community cohesion' did allow considerable space for local understandings of what the challenges were for 'cohesion' for schools and communities in one locality. The British values policy is not like this, it just identifies the values and expects schools to promote those particular values. Schools are doing this in a variety of ways though as there is no guidance from the government on how to promote. Best wishes, Carol
