Attention. The work in the paper below is based on two dimensional modelling, but is investigating three dimensional parameters ( like Hub to Tip Ratios
on the Performance of 0.6 m Impulse Turbine ).

H/T determines the relative effect of curvature, rotational effects, and 3D flow effects (tip clerance/endwall). My reading of this is that the authors are simply trying to understand the relative effect of these three parameters. At least in the initial design phase, 2D simulations are commonly used for airfoil design and understanding how good of a prediction this is seems to be the author's goal.
I could not see the article, but the hub to tip ratio has also an influence on the 2D flow as tit is related to the flow área throgh the blades.
