Writing a research paper, if for publication, usually depends on where you intend to publish it. The structures generally look alike but the specifics are normally provided by the publishing body. IMRAD is generally a favoured structure by many organisations. Again differences may occur due to the type of research paper and the discipline. For example, presentation of a desktop review paper may not be the same as a paper based on a research project. Structures for social research papers may also differ from those of biophysical research papers. But ultimately it depends on the requirements of where you intend to publish.
A research paper usually includes an abstract in the first page, this abstract describes the essence of the paper. Then there is the introduction in which you explain what you are investigating and what are the papers that you cite in this respect. Then comes the research question and hypotheses, and after this the methodology chapter in which you explain the statistical or mathematical methods you are using in this research. Then comes the "findings" section, then the discussion(in which you analyze the findings), and then the conclusions, and sometimes you add suggestions for further research on the subject (this is optional).
This 2-minute video gives a quick overview of how a research paper is structured. It briefly explains the different parts of a research paper, what each part should include, and how the parts should be organized.
