Recently, I've been doing research regarding the subject of early forest fire detection and I was wondering what the most common practice (which is financially feasible and efficient) in the detection of forest fires. Also what research papers on the subject are recommended on this subject?

Satellite imagery will be the ideal way, with near-real-time review and monitoring. The other way is to have sensors & RFID tags at regular intervals placed in the forest and have a real-time monitoring station.
The most feasible way to detect forest fires is using remote sensing and GIS.
But as you have mentioned " unmanned aerial systems" then use of Drone is another option.
