What is the exact method to determine E-plane and H-plane from far field antenna radiation pattern in HFSS ? Sometimes the E-field changes direction with different phase values.
The E-plane and H-plane are usually based on the direction of the E-field and H-field in the antenna aperture, not in the far-field. I think that if your E-field changes direction in the far field, with phase, then you may not have a clearly defined E-plane or H-plane.
Is the field that is changing direction very small? If so it may just be calculation inaccuracies that don't matter. When you look at the field direction check the amplitude as well, to see how significant it is.
Thanks Wa'Il A. Godaymi Al-Tumah Sir. But what about orientation of patch antenna? All time we should plot phi= 0 or 90 against theta, then what about phi = 270? 360 is same as 0 deg. And if the beam is squinted then?
Thanks AmirAshkan Darvish Sir. But how can we determine far-field E-filed direction by observing current flow on radiating element? And what should be the phase for observation?
The general way to plot the vector E and H with animation and see the plane which containing this specific field vector, from this you can easily identify where are Eplane and Hplane.
Attached are exaplmes for Evector and Hvector where you can see clearly that the Evectors are in XZ(Phi0) plane and Hvectors are in YZ (Phi90)plane, for sure this will change by changing your antenna orienetation and your antenna type.
Thanks Kerlos Atia Abdalmalak Sir. But should we select the plane for animating E-filed and H-field in far-field or on the aperture itself? And what should be the phase for animation?
You are welcome sir, no these are near fileds and no need to select plane especially that we assume that we do not know the plane so here are the steps
1- Select the radiating element (for example the patch) or even the surrounding objects such as a substrate.
2-Rclk on it then Plot Fields then E (or H) then E_Vector (or H_Vector)
3- Select the frequency you are interested, leave the phase because any way you are going to animate the filed in the next step.
4- Rclk on the Vector_E1 (Vector_H1) under the option Field Overlays/ E Filed (H field) then Animate and OK and put the speed to the max..
