Xen includes a live migration mechanism named Remus. You may have a look at the paper "Reliability Support in Virtual Infrastructures", Guilherme Koslovski, Wai-Leong Yeow, Cedric Westphal, Tram Truong-Huu, Johan Montagnat, Pascale Vicat-Blanc. We implemented and performed experiments with it on a realistic cloud platform.

Simulation has the advantage that you can fine-tune your resource management and load-balancing algorithms faster than actually having to deal with the complexities of setting up an environment composed of multiple VMs. After your control algorithms are defined, you can test them within a multi-server environment.

I am just sharing my idea over which this shall be experimented in a private cloud.

Setup a Private Cloud with Cloud Software like Eucalyptus.

You need to have 2 Servers running in Xen Kernel.

There are many ways of Migration like ( Warm, Cold and Live)

Check this link to know about types of migration of VM

You shall try live migration.

Initially ping the IP of the VM to be migrated.

Now start live migration from One Server.

Once Live Migration is success, you can check the RTT in Ping which gives

Percent of Packet Loss.

This is just a basic level of experimenting of migration in Xen.
