During seed potato production, first step is to select apparently healthy plant, but how we can take sample of the tubers from the selected plants. What is the best method?
Seed potato production really begins in the lab, where virus free plant stocks are multiplied by tissue culture in test tubes. Once seedlings have grown the size of the test tubes they are transplanted in pots and grown in the greenhouse to harvest of minitubers, your basic seed tuber lot. After several cycles of multiplication in the greenhouse (i.e., under relatively controlled environmental conditions), you are ready to go to the field and multiply the tuber seed there over a number of crop cycles to reach the amounts of seed to be certified. It is a long and costly process. I suggest you look up true potato seed technology. Get in touch with CIP in Peru. They have done a lot of work on TPS.
