I think that you should mention (or decide) what is the purpose of the backup: to preserve data on hardware failure or to have a rescue method in case of data corruption.
In the first case, depending on the SAN you use, there are tools to replicate to another SAN (with a considerable cost because you need other disk array very similar to the first) which are provided by the vendor and they consider the integrity.
In the second case, many array disks offer the "snapshot" tool, which is the best for, because it is like a photo of every volume.
