Considering linguistics and teaching foreign languages. I am wondering if there is an ingrained and deep rooted approach called " " sociolinguistics approach " which is to be a way to teach a language and has its own principles?
If so, would you please guide me to relative papers or books which deal with this approach as a way to teach languages.
Of course you can study the language sociolinguistically by consulting sociolinguistics books.
Hi Ahmed, I would say no: sociolinguists study the relationship between societies and languages, which is not the same as a so-called "sociolinguistic approach to teaching languages". Sociolinguists will - related to this - study the effect that the teaching of and use of languages in education has on society and on the use of that and other languages. However, sociolinguists can contribute to the conceptualisation of language teaching on the basis of insight in context, perception, status and function of languages within the societies in which or for which the language teaching takes place.
