Weight proportion of balls-powder for ball milling depends on type of material to be milled. Speed, milling time is another important parameters to be considered. Agents like toluene, ethanol etc. are agents to boost up the process. Up to 20:1 ball to wt ratio can be used...You might search literature for optimum time, speed, ball to wt ratio, medium of milling, for similar material
typical amounts of stearic used is less than 1 wt%. Stearic acid is used to prevent cold welding of ductile systems, during ball-milling. Temperature, ball-powder ratio, ball size and energy of the ball milling system can and do play a role in altering the amount of stearic acid required to prevent cold welding. The addition of SiC should also act as an embrittling agent which can off set the amount of stearic acid needed. A note, the use of PCA will cause an increase in carbon contamination, which will lead to the formation of other carbides during milling or during post heat treatment.
