That depends VERY much which subject you are working in, as there are plenty of writing guides - both general ones, and those that focus on more narrow subjects.. In my field of mathematics a quite good and also amusing book is Handbook of Academic Writing, by Nick Higham.

But if your field is another there probably is a much more sensible book for you - just Google your science and "writing" or "handbook".
