the terms sound a bit strange for me and I wonder in which context you are using these terms. Could you please clarify this by citing some examples. Maybe based upon these clarifying words colleagues will add some answers. I have been dealing with clay minerals since many years but these terms side-by-side with each other need some more information, otherwise researchers will have difficulties to come to grips with this Q & A launch.
Aging usually result in some changes of properties, and strength gain. The meaning her is that you compacted the clay in layers up to the required height or thickness and left it for some time to age.The properties will change somewhat with aging due to environmental factors such as evaporation, rainfall, etc. This is different from the well known preconsolidation or overconsolidation which means that the clay was subjected to a larger pressure than the existing pressure at present.
You may also note that after remolding a clay specimen will continue to gain strength with time. This phenomenon is referred to as thixotropy.Thixotropy is a time dependent reversible process. The loss of strength is gradually regained with time when the material is allowed to rest.
