It is better to put spatial localizations of economic activities on a map and then look for different type of structures. Typically on classical maps devoted to economic geography we get location of minerals, type of land use, cities with their industrial specialization.
Now it is very popular to talk about clusters. These are interacting economic activities located in one neighborhood. It might be polycentrical city, for example. But we need to go deeper into city specialization and find out complementarities that create economies of scale. A well known example is Silicon Valley.
