We will upgrade the fish larvae lab. Can a scientist advise on the equipment needed to research larval fish? Currently we have a microscope and some other basic equipment for identification fish larvae. We want to study taxonomy, ecology, isotope, furthermore DNA.

To sample fish larvae you need a Bongo net (plankton net with mesh size 200 to 500 micron). For measure we use CTD. You can conserve samples by Formol or Ethanol.

You may need KOH and Alizarin for clearing and staining techniques. That will help you in the identifying process by counting fin rays and vertebrae (staining will let you observe them easier). You must get identification keys, if there are no available ones for your area of interest, you may use those from other areas just to reach Gender levels.
