It is known from history that the Maxwell equations are derived from the existence of a physical environment in which the electromagnetic field propagates. Einstein himself says that physics without ether is unthinkable.
If Einstein's ether is to be discussed, perhaps the whole paragraph is needed.
Recapitulating, we may say that according to the general theory of relativity space is endowed with physical qualities; in this sense, therefore, there exists an ether. According to the general theory of relativity space without ether is unthinkable; for in such space there not only would be no propagation of light, but also no possibility of existence for standards of space and time (measuring-rods and clocks), nor therefore any space-time intervals in the physical sense. But this ether may not be thought of as endowed with the quality characteristic of ponderable media, as consisting of parts which may be tracked through time. The idea of motion may not be applied to it.
Mr. Malcolm White, Einstein's lecture is full with the "may be" word. The Michelson and Morley experiment is known to produce a non-zero result. It is also known that several more experiments have been carried out, which strongly prove the existence of an etheric wind. According to many researchers the ether is endowed with the quality characteristic of ponderable media. In my humble opinion, it is time for modern physics to come out of mathematics and enter the real world.
