It is a very FAQ ( Has there been any break in your academic career?) by the recruiter in Government sectors of India. Does it has anything to do with our career? Does it mean break during the course/in between the courses? What are your opinion?
I think it is important to have practical experience for acadenicians, if you call it break that is okay, we need to learn what is goşng on in real kife... or sometimes break means leaving teaching for sabbatical that is for a research...
ınalso suggest my article about paravtice and tbeory...
In India, academic break(in context to govt recruitments) means " any gap within two academic degree courses. "In simple words, if you completed the bachelor degree in 2011 and did not take/get admission in master degree in that year only but get admission in the master course in 2012, it means you have one-year academic gap or break.....normally, it won't affect academic career if one or two years academic break, but more than three or four year break make negative perception to recruiter/interviewer.
I agree with you @Kumar. This has become one of the major issue for Indian Engineering/Medical students as most of them have academic break in career due to financial constraint or 3/4 attempts for admission into the course. It is high time to look in to the matter since the suicidal tendency by the candidate is rising because of stress and frustration. I am sharing some of the link highlighting that Indian students are more stressed than ever.
On the other side, Regular and Distance course have become a new topic for recruitment of teachers in colleges and university. Recently, University Grants Commission, New Delhi had given Clarification regarding "Regular Mode" with reference to the Ph.D.Degrees (http://www.ugc.ac.in/pdfnews/4516142_UGC-Public-Notice-reg-Ph.D.pdf). This will become a curse for lower and middle class families.
