The Lion Fish (Pterois volitans) is becoming an environmental threat to marine and estuarine system on the caribbean, therefore I would like to know what are those ecophysiological advantages that turned the Lion Fish into a strong invasive species?
Not really ecophysiology, but parasites are important for regulation of host populations. Since they influence the physiology of the host, this might be a lead.

Helena Hauss thank you for sharing that paper, you nailed the answer I was looking for. It seems they can tolerate low salinity and high sediment loads. Here in Colombia, we have found lionfishes in systems with low productivity, the stomach content verifies they feed on fish larvae and little mollusks.
