Some associate teaching effectiveness with student course evaluations, ability to communicate, popularity, deduction, etc. What do you think are the top three attributes of a great teacher?
Every teacher may have different priorities. To my mind , the top three attributes of a great teacher should be:
1) persistent perseverance to increase their knowledge about the subject matter they are teaching since, content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, and professional knowledge form the main backbone of any professional teaching,
2) awareness of latest developments in the philosophy of education which is a prerequisite to teachers' beliefs and identities,
3) Paying attention to axiological and ethical dimensions of teaching which is important to teachers' accountability and reflective teaching.
* Deep enough understanding of the topic and personal capacities in order to transmit clear and synthesized ideas on these subjects (essentially, going beyond the book's content, e.g. connecting with other fields, introduce recent developments from scientific research in the field, etc.);
* Ability to proper teaching every topic of the syllabus in the proper deepness (competitiveness of students may depend on not neglecting any significant part of the syllabus);
* Ability to motivated enough high curiosity and interest on the topics and even "to dream" with applications and/or potential scientific research , knowing that only few students will have opportunity to explore far beyond the lectures, exercises, and book topics.
