According to Scopus, out of 52M papers since 1970, only 25k research papers have received more than 1000 citations. Does anybody know if there are any papers in the maritime industry that reached over 1000 citations? If there are no such papers, what are the top cited papers in the maritime?
PS. Addressing some comments below: By maritime paper I mean the papers related directly to the ship or maritime logistics, i.e. papers on ship and port economics, ship hydrodynamics, ship, and port safety, ship structures, ship machinery, ship design and so on.

Thanks for this question. It is indeed very interesting.
The first thing is to define the data sample among which we can try to find globally top-cited papers (and then check if one of them collected more than 1k). I believe, the answer to your question depends primarily on what you understand as a "maritime industry paper". Is it a paper where certain keywords are listed, such as maritime, ship, etc.? Actually, it will not be as easy as it sounds.
The problem is that there are many research papers strongly impacting maritime industry or maritime-related issues and there are cited in the papers from the maritime field. However, they cannot be classified (easily or at all) as "maritime papers". As examples may serve, among others, the papers from social sciences or psychology about human factors, cognitive process (for instance, in the topic of autonomous ships, maritime accidents, ship safety), etc. They are not about a ship or a navigator per se but they for sure impact the maritime industry and "maritime industry papers".
Without setting boundary conditions, finding the answer will be an extremely tough challenge. Thus, what do you mean by "maritime research paper"?

Again, everything depends on what we understand as "maritime industry paper", and how to set search criteria to do not skew the results (by omitting relevant papers or including unsuitable documents to the dataset).
Is the paper about antifouling coatings within the "maritime industry" scope? There is even a term "ship" in the abstract and marine/maritime/ship several times within the body of the paper. If so, this paper has more than 1k citations in Scopus (1425), see "Antifouling technology - Past, present and future steps towards efficient and environmentally friendly antifouling coatings".
Regarding books, I see for instance, "Handbook of Marine Craft Hydrodynamics and Motion Control" with 2342 citations in Scopus.
There are also other examples, the results depend on what we would like to classify.
To find a relevant answer to Victor's question it is needed to know what paper is suitable to be classified as the "maritime" one. The criteria used to build the search query are one of the most important issues when analyzing a bibliometric dataset.
