The differences in the relative standard deviation (% RSD) are likely to stem from variations in the formulation composition rather than from analytical or instrumental inaccuracy. Differences in % RSD as a result of analytical methods or instrumental methods can be easily verified by conducting the same analytical or instrumental methods on known standards. On the other hand, the possibility to get differences in % RSD for reasons related to formulations is high since the nature of the powder in the active and inactive ingredients might be different when are purchased from different sources or received from different production batches. The variation in the physical properties of these powders has a vast impact on the disintegration and dissolution tests of the solid formulation. In addition, any slight change in the concentration of the excepients contained in the formulation may have a drastic effect on the disintegration and dissolution test as well as on other properties such as hardness of tablets, friability and etc.
