Democracy has been deteriorating as we entered the 21st century. The "political" view of existing and new ideologies is each time less concerned about the wellbeing of everyone (the very reason for democracy), with purposes of maintaining control and political power over a nation or region, for the long term.

The original meaning of Demos = common people and Kratos = rule, strength, a system of government in which power is exercised by the people, is quite far from what occurs nowadays. So, the main challenges and potential solutions for the 21st century are:

• Rescue the true values of democracy
• Empower people and every individual, to eliminate every asymmetry within the society, in order to enable everyone to participate and decide in equal conditions, on transparent public management matters and the use of public resources
• Create a strong civic culture and identity, a strategic individual and collective thinking, based on solidarity, where every individual looks for the wellbeing of everyone
