Hello, I am a Social Worker student, and I want to give a genuine point of view on what I believe, based on what I have been studying so far. As you said, some people adjust easily and some people do not, and I believe that happens all over the world since there are some determinants that overcome all cultures. For example:
- The socio-economic status. Having financial security provides access to basic needs such as healthcare, education or employment while poverty leads to social exclusion or stress.
- Childhood, family and life experiences. I express them together because I believe they are mostly related, how your relationships work, specially in our families, our first social environment, often influences your communication style, and that applies to life experiences as well, how you have learned to cope around social stress, traumas or others. All of them can easily hinder social development if there isn't stability in any of them.
- Institutions. The access to resources and policies that these provide also play a fundamental role, since they are the key for improvement for those who struggle. These determine to which extent individuals get to actively participate in our society, so therefore these institutions might end up obstructing social development for some who might need help that is not covered by these.
- Mental health. We are aware that exists conditions such as anxiety or depression that are on its own barriers for making social relationships and without access to a proper mental health support, there will not be an improvement.
Lastly, I also think that culture influences but as I first explained, these are some I believe that transcend the culture and affects individuals in each part of the world. So this is based on what I have learned and also what I believe, and I think most of it is something people can agree on.
