It depends on your ethical stance, the child's voice in the encounter, who is paying?, the cultural context, the legislation applicable in the country where the encounter is occurring.

In the US, the child counselor is ethically and legally bound to follow state and licensing guidelines applicable to clients under 18 years of age.

Люди с недовольным лицом похожи на сито: все явления жизни просеиваются через их сознание, хорошее проскакивает, не задерживаясь, а плохое остается и фокусируется, продолжая формировать характер. В народе говорят: «Сердиться — значит мстить себе за ошибки других». С такими людьми сложно общаться. Что же делать, чтобы завоевать расположение окружающих, которое в конце концов важно для нас самих? В таком случае необходимы меры систематического самовоздействия, кропотливая работа над своей психикой, самонастройка на радость, на светлое и красивое.

О людях судят по их поведению в обществе. Тот, кто ведет себя по писаным и неписаным правилам этикета, всегда производит прекрасное впечатление, и все с удовольствием имеют с ним дело. Хорошие манеры должны быть лишь проявлением внутреннего отношения человека к окружающим; проявление внимания и уважения к людям зависит и от того, как мы сами ведем себя. Мы вправе ожидать от них любезного отношения, если только мы сами вежливы, приветливы и почтительны. Прежде чем вспылить, наговорить резкостей, которые будут болезненно восприняты и собеседником и вами, подумайте, взвесьте все обстоятельства и… может быть, тон и лексика будут другими. И еще одно правило, которым следует руководствоваться в отношениях с другими: поступайте с ними так, как вы хотели бы, чтобы они поступали с вами.

In the US also children have no rights. It is an ethical issue when a parent wants to know what is going on with their child. Are you bound to say something to them or is it confidential? Since the minor has no rights...

I note from above that in the US that people under the age of 18 have little rights to confidentially etc which I think would be a barrier to help seeking. I also note that who pays comes into consideration which is certainly not something that would factor in my practice.

Im a hundred percent in agreement with Robyn Kirby including comments about pay etc. for me its ethics first and in doing so mentioning all of this at the first session, so that there are no repercussions later. Iron out what you do and what you dont share when dealing with a minor, and also when you are expected to share viz: if called upon by court etc.

The legal and ethical issues may differ from culture to culture and jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

School bullying is one of the important issues that need guidance for children because of its serious psychological and social effects on the bully and the victim of this bullying

First it is important for the parent or guardian to give consent for the minor to be engaged in the counseling relationship. Secondly, the Counselor is expected to protect the minor in case there is evidence of abuse or neglegence. The issue of confidentiality also need to be handled with care because the minor need to be able to trust the Counselor and that is why it is important to explain to the minor about sharing SOME information with the parent.

The consent declared by parents to receive counseling services for the child, as well as to maintain confidentiality and to report abuse in the process of the child or sexual abuse are among the most important legal and ethical issues for the child

The safety and protection of the child especially if the one abusing him/her are his or her own parents. We should not run to the parents if that is the case as it is not automatic to run to the parents if they are the stressors.

Still, a minor has no rights. So earlier there was a comment on how we don't go running to a parent. If they are the one abusing the child, I could not imagine the parent bringing them to counseling, however the child has no rights. I am a mandated reporter of course, and would make a call with the parent present if I had something I had to report. The main issue, I believe, is something addressed in my Grad school, and that is, minors have no rights. There is no confidentiality for a minor. Legally, if the parent wants information, you would have to give it. Obviously we can make things vague, however the patient legally is not safe in the bubble of confidentiality that adults have. There stems a lot of ethical issues. Also when dealing with 0-5 years old it is difficult to interpret play, and since they are not expressive with words at that time, it is difficult to figure out what is going on in their play. Be careful of interpretations (they are not facts).
