Though the frequency limits do not match exactly: to suppress an interfering "pilot tone" within the audio spectrum (small-band audio - "analog telephone quality"). This spectrum applies as well for analog wireless AM audio transmission.
Audio system, Musical instruments (Tx & Rx) can use it. In a stereo system, to listen particular voice and eliminate certain freq., Speech analysis etc are the area of application. There are two important aspects for wider use.
1) It should be programmable and selectable for required elimination with ref to time.
2) Its bandwidth of elimination (Narrow band capability)
